Minimal Invasive Surgery covers all techniques that use specially developed cameras, optical devices and instruments for surgical interventions in the pelvic, thoracic or groin area, in arthral surgery (e.g. knee joint). Only very small skin incisions are made. The advantage of this surgical method is to avoid the destruction of tissues on the way toward the real place of the intervention. Minimal Invasive Surgery develops very fast. In all field of surgery users search ways to use this technique for various indications. The growing application of minimal invasive technologies lead to a change in the need of sutures. Catgut GmbH offers a number of articles related to this development in addition to the standard suture range. |

Sutures for minimal invasive surgery, their main characteristics: |
|
NON-ABSORBABLE: | |
MONOFILAMENT | POLYFILAMENT |
MAPROLEN® Polypropylene blue very soft and smooth |
POLYESTER-S |
MARIDERM® Copolymer Polyamide 6/66, blue optimum skin closure |
|
MARILON® Polyvinylidenfluoride, blue absolutely inert |
|
SYNTHETIC ABSORBABLE: | |
MONOFILAMENT | POLYFILAMENT |
MARISORB® After 6-7 weeks Marisorb retains half of its tensile strength. Complete degradation by hydrolysis is finished after appr. 180 to 210 days. |
MARLIN® / MARLIN®II Polyglykolsäure, braided violet or undyed precision braided, coated, smooth The degradation in the body takes place by hydrolysis with very small tissue reaction. After 14 to 16 days remain of the tensile strength and degradation is accomplished after appr. 90 days |
PCL PolyCaprolacton-co-Lactid violet coated
|
|
MARICRYL® Poly(glykolide-co-caprolacton undyed or violet short time absorbable smooth and soft reduced tissue reaction secure knots |

Suture packing options for minimal invasive surgery:
Loop sutures Loop sutures are made from Marlin®, Marisorb®, PCL, Marilon® or Polyester-S green in different lengths. Additional fixation guarantees a strong needle attachment to the loop. |
Intracorporal suture For intracorporal knots we offer shorter threads as well as sutures with a pretied loop (starting loop) in the end. In this way you can reduce the amount of work for the first knot in the intracorporal suturing. Several needles are available as flat needles. The „blackline“ range is characterised by visibility without reflection in the place of surgery and extremely sure positioning in the needle holder. |
Trocar incision suture These sutures have a 5/8 circle needle or special incision needles with a prolonged shank. With these sutures you can close fascias very comfortable even if there is only very small place. |
